This masterpiece by Toni Morrison is one of my favourite books and I couldn’t resist designing a cover for it.

It tells the story of Pecola, a black girl in 1940s America who has suffered unspeakable trauma and is now been driven mad by white society's conventions of beauty. The illustration is by Robert Childress who illustrated the Dick and Jane children's books which are referred to throughout the novel. I added the halftone effect to enforce the idea that preconceptions of beauty are inherently false and perpetuated by the media.

The Bluest Eye is a strange and devastating book you will never forget.
